Amag PT 04 - Atelier Local / Ilheu Atelier

Atelier Local was founded in 2019 by Maria Rebelo and João Paupério in northern Portugal. Both architects previously worked at the BAUKUNST office in Brussels. The practice of Atelier Local, driven by its young team, combines writing with a focus on the spheres of home and housing. Ilhéu Atelier, started in 2019 by Rita Sampaio and Afonso Botelho Santos, manifests from the isolated and unique environment of the Azores. They seek responses to insular conditions through serial experimentation with spatial and formal possibilities that either celebrate or challenge the narratives of its context. The practice thus fluctuates between local opportunities and overseas references.
